Sedway Consulting, in association with Sedway Group, is pleased to cosponsor the publication of the proceedings of the 1998 APA Annual National Planning Conference in Boston.

We have always believed that the annual conference is one of the most valuable educational activities of the Association. It is also one of the most frustrating since attendees must choose among several concurrent sessions of interest and relevance. Moreover, many members are unable to attend the conferences, and thus are unable to derive their benefits. Through this publication, AICP should help fill sone of these needs.

When I began my service as an adjunct lecturer at the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley in 1967, I would assign readings from the ASPO conference proceedings, published for many years. The students found these highly instructive, particularly in providing insights into actual planning practice. Since the UCB Department of City Planning is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, I consider our cosponsorship of this publication to be a gift to it as well as to the entire planning profession. I hope that through our support, this valuable publication program is successfully inaugurated and can continue to play an important role in the educational functions of the Institute.
