On behalf of the entire AICP Commission, it is with great pleasure that we provide the proceedings of the 2001 APA National Planning Conference. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the AICP has published the proceedings and the third year on CD-ROM. The growth and popularity of the APA Conference has resulted in over 5,000 copies of these proceedings being distributed to all fully paid conference attendees. Just as important, additional copies are made available to those who were unable to attend the APA Conference in New Orleans but are interested in the activities of APA and AICP.
This proceedings CD-ROM is the result of the hard work of the Multi-Media Task Force, chaired this past year by Steve Preston, FAICP, in California. This task force strives to employ the latest technology to provide high quality, affordable, professional development opportunities for our AICP members. Just this year, the task force implemented the electronic version of the AICP Membership Roster, advanced the publication of a new book by Carol Barrett on Ethics and Professional Conduct, and has contracted with a new editor for the quarterly AICP Planners Casebook.
Our thanks go to the editor of the proceedings CD-ROM, Kim Shetter, and to Mary Kihl, AICP, the Director of the Herberger Center at Arizona State University. I would also like to recognize the substantial efforts of Ray Quay, FAICP, Assistant Director of Planning in Phoenix, Arizona, who each year unselfishly volunteers his assistance in the editing and programming of the CD-ROM.
Finally, AICP owes a debt of gratitude to the Fannie Mae Foundation in Washington, D.C. Without the financial support and generosity of the Fannie Mae Foundation, the production and distribution of the proceedings would not be possible.
Sincerely,
Sam Casella, FAICP
