Abstract:

It’s been nearly 40 years since Pete Seeger sang abut “little boxes on the hillside.” Whether they’re McMansions or single-story starter homes, little boxes are still being built today. Monotonous subdivisions result from mass-produced and maximum-sized housing and a lack of government control. Learn how to provide visual relief.

Mr. Kendig has a Bachelors of Architecture from the University of Michigan (1963) and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina (1968). Prior to starting his consulting practice in 1982, he worked as Planning Director for both Lake County, Illinois, and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He is the author of Performance Zoning and an innovator in community character, as well as a nationally recognized expert in the development of zoning and subdivision regulations, comprehensive plans, growth management strategies, environmentally-sensitive site design, and transportation plans.
