Abstract
Recognizing the growing importance of airports to regional economies, the APAs Transportation Planning Division created a Focus Group on airport issues in 2002. Outside the realm of aviation and air traffic, airports generate significant environmental and economic impacts. Literature on airport noise and air emissions analysis is quite extensive. However, there has been little exploration of the highway and transit interfaces. Little is known about the types and special requirements of industries that tend to locate near airports. There is no literature on airport retailing and its relationship to the adjacent airfront district and the general retailing activities of the surrounding region.
In March 29, 2003, in cooperation with the Advanced Transit Association, TPD held a day-long workshop that was offered for AICP credit at the start of the APA National Conference. Presenters were asked to prepare short "Fact Sheets" which stated significant points about one aspect of airfront planning and listed bibliographic resources. These were compiled into the Airfront Issues Workshop Fact Sheets.
